Here Come The Warm Jets - Brian Eno (1973)
Eno would be a prominent name in music for multiple reasons even if not all the parts of his career had existed. But while it probably isn’t what he’ll be remembered for, this brief turn as a 70s glam rocker was a lot of fun and brought a lot of higher art into a sometimes silly style of music.
He didn’t water down his ambitions or his creative process, but attacked the pop world with it. In the process he staked out new territory for artsy music that was fun, catchy, and expressive. It was a niche David Bowie recognized right away, and it cleared the way decades later for bands like Alt J and St Vincent.
Tracks I Liked
Baby’s On Fire - Robert Fripp briefly takes over the track, as he tends to do.
Driving Me Backwards - Worth a mention for the process: the song you hear is the recording played in reverse, including the lyrics, which he worked out phonetically and actually recorded backwards so they’d sound intelligible when played in reverse.
On Some Faraway Beach - what passes for a ballad here, but still beautiful
